Obituary of Thomas Thayer

Thomas "Tommy" Thayer, 61, of Vineland passed away on August 19, 2008 due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on August 8, 2008. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Lloyd and Gladys Thayer. His childhood was spent in Jacksonville where he earned the rank of eagle scout. Tommy attended Bishop Kenny High School and transfered to St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland where he graduated on 1964. He attended Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina and Glassboro State College in NJ graduating with a bachelor's and Master's Degree in Business Administration. He was married to his college sweetheart, Edith (Colla), on June 26, 1970 and then entered into the National Guard. He was an elementary teacher at Reber School before becoming the assistant superintendant and board secretary for the Vineland Board of Education for 28 years, retiring in 1999. Tommy was a parishoner, eucharistic minister, lector, business administrator and webmaster for St. Padre Pio Parish. He was an avid Gator fan and enjoyed cooking, playing golf and tennis, and listening to all kinds of music. He was a master of computer technology, family geneaology and NY Times crossword puzzles. Tommy enjoyed caring for "His Boys", Beau and Roux (Newfoundland Dogs). Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great friend to all that knew him.
