Obituary of Ronald Manno

Ronald "Ron" Joseph Manno, 80, of Pittsgrove Township and now The Villages, Florida, whose health had been failing for several years, passed away on December 23rd at Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ. Ron is one of the three children born to the late Samuel and Anna (Forte) Manno. He grew up on the family farm in Rosenhayn, NJ and graduated from Bridgeton High School Class of '59. Ron was an educator in Cumberland County Schools before retiring after 39 years of education from the Bridgeton Board of Education. He was a man of few words, but actions of a distinguished gentleman. Ron played outstanding football in high school and is in the Bridgeton Sports Hall of Fame. He graduated from the University of Utah on a full academic and athletic scholarship. Ron was Captain of the Utes football team and is an All-American College Hall of Famer, having been awarded his silver bowl from the Office of Robert F. Kennedy. He received a Masters degree in Education from Glassboro State College (now known as Rowan University). Ron welcomed all, not only into his home but also into his heart; he loved his community. He was honored as Man of the Year for Pittsgrove Township, assisted with many Scout activities and soccer teams. Ronald served as President of the Pittsgrove Soccer Club and was a JV girls soccer coach for Schalick High School. Alongside his wife, held weekly spaghetti dinners for the high school football teams, held annual summer barbeques for Bridgeton school's faculty and staff, hosted many exchange students (Spain). He served on the Child Placement Review Board of Salem County for children in foster care for over 25 years. Ron loved to dance, loved to travel (visited all 50 states), extensive family cruising and traveled abroad to Israel, Jordan, Italy, Sicily & Rome. He was a master woodcraftsman and known as the "flower doctor". Ron will surely be missed by all he knew him; he was truly one of a kind. The mold was broken when Ronald was born. He is loved; he is cherished and will never be forgotten. Ron is survived by the Love of his life for 45 years, Andrea "Andi" Manno; his sister, Phyllis (Dominic) Buono; his children, Ronald John (Janet), Joe Sr. (Christine), David (Rochele), Jason (Stefanie) and Annie Manno; his sister in law, Maryann Ingraldi; stepsister, Kathy Brago (Tony) and a very special person to the family, William Schaffer. He has 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members. Along with his parents Ron was predeceased by his brother Martin Manno, and his stepmother Laura (Danna) Manno. A Graveside service and burial will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 1:00pm at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, 380 Morias Avenue, Millville, NJ Due to COVID-19 restrictions everyone must wear a mask and social distance In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in memory of Ron be made to : The charity of one's choice.
