Gene was a member of our retired teachers monthly breakfast club known as “A League of Extraordinary Gentleman” and he was exactly that. We are all extremely saddened by his passing. Our sincere condolences to his entire family.

Bonnie, Gene was an inspiration and role model to everyone he met. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts. In the Jewish tradition we say, 'May his memory be a blessing'.

My sincere condolences to Bonnie and the entire McCann family--I've known Gene for many years having become more acquainted while members of the NWSC. He had an enormous sense of humor and was always ready to banter back and forth with quips and jokes--I'm sure he will be missed by all who knew him.
Great Memories, RIP---

Your loss is shared by everyone who knew and loved Gene. He will forever be in our hearts and memories. We have wonderful memories of Gene and all of them included fun and laughter. I was involved with Gene in the early days of the VEA. We became great friends. I later worked with Gene as a negotiation consultant at the Hammonton office. Ed taught with him at VHS. We’ve been friends for 53 years. We enjoyed our times together at Penn State...Our sadness over his passing is so heartbreaking. Our sincere condolences to you, Bonnie, and the entire family. Gene will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him . You can never forget that wonderful laugh and sense of humor. You have our deepest sympathy.
With great sadness,
Pat and Ed Nicholanco

I first knew Gene as a student at Memorial Jr High. He, Bill Horton and several other new young men teachers at Memorial were looked up to by us young male students as mentors and for inspiration. They encouraged those of us who loved sports to be passionate about what we did and to play with that passion. Later on I reffed basketball games as a fellow official with Gene and played pick up basketball with him. Eventually I became his dentist for 25 or more years which was great b/c it allowed me to continue to stay in touch with him and always be entertained by a couple of Geneisim's stories.
Gene was a very bright man, but never flaunted it. He could talk on a variety of subjects and was always informative as well as entertaining. He loved to give me updates on his family and was always interested in hearing about my kids as well.
I always was interested in hearing about his exploits on the golf course with Irv, John, and his other buddies from Vland. When Gene left my office my staff and I always seemed to have a "good day". He had a way to brighten the room , or the gym, or the course. RIP my friend
