Mr, Jay was by far the best teacher I ever had. He was way before his time teaching us all how to appreciate each other's cultures and beliefs. I was fortunate enough to visit him at Spring Oak in the last few years of his wonderful life. He continued to be the kind, funny and caring man I remembered as a young girl. I feel privileged to have known this amazing man. Rest in peace.

Dr. Jay was an incredible Principal. Cunningham staff and student body totally respected this gentleman, his wit, humor, and leadership were the force behind his career as an educator.

My heart is so overwhelmed. Mr. Jay, my Godfather, (lovingly referred to as Dr. J because he was as big as a basketball player in my eyes) has gone on to glory. I have so many wonderful memories of growing up with your love and support and you will truly be missed. Let's see if I can name one of my most fondest memories... Well there's the time when I was in 3rd grade at Reber School, you were the principal, and a food fight erupted in the cafeteria. I don't know if it was because I was the only name you could remember at the time, but you called me out to get your "Board of Education" and I was scared silly. Of course it was just a scare tactic for the perpetrators but it worked on me as well. I'll never forget the looks of the students as you roared while standing on the cafeteria table. Then there was the time when my husband sold our car in New Jersey and we needed a ride back to Baltimore and you graciously volunteered to drive us home. And of course the love you shared with my children who remember you and loved you equally as much. Thank you for being such a huge part of my life. I love you dearly and will miss you even more. REST WELL - Ke'Sha Hawkins and Family

Unaware of Mr. Jay's passing, during a family dinner discussion this week, we talked about our most memorable teacher. Mr. Jay was my choice, who over 50 years ago demonstrated what a great educator is and how much impact & influence he/she can have on a child and for the rest of their life.

Paula and I are very saddened to hear of the passing of Howard (aka HoJo). He was a dear friend to us and the Piersimoni family.
We have a lot of great memories of HoJo, all of which we will cherish.
It comforts us to know that he is in a better place, reunited with his loved ones who have passed before him. We're absolutely certain that he and Baldo are creating some mischief in heaven. :)
Enjoy feasting at the great table, Howard. We will meet again (but not too soo, not too soon).
God bless you and keep you!

If ever there was a teacher who influenced me, Mr Jay is the one!! As my 5th grade teacher, (1965) he brought humor, knowledge, and mutual respect for students into his classroom. Over the years I have recalled his infectious smile. May his memory bring you joy and blessings. - Miriam Aufseeser-Weiss

Thank You for always giving me words of encouragement as a young child at Cunningham School. I will never forget walking into your office upset because I saw something wrong with your finger when I walked in the buildings hat morning and I thought your finger was gonna fall off , turned out to be a rubber protector so u could turn pages without getting a paper cut . You felt so bad that I was worried about you that you went a snuck me my favorite orange popsicle from the cafeteria and let me hang in your office until i finished it . A gracious caring man. It was an honor to know you.
