Obituary of Edvige Virginia Serra

Rone Funeral Service 856-691-4222 with photo For Thurs. 8/12/10 Edvige (Pallaver) Serra, 83, of Vineland passed away on August 9, 2010 at her home. She was born September 27, 1926 in Nuremburg, PA to the late Ester (Turri) and Faustino Pallaver. She attended Vineland High School and was active in student government, dramatics club and was a three-time winner of the girls V.H.S. Public Speaking Contest. She graduated from Vineland High School as an honor student in the class of 1945. Edvige graduated in 1949 from NJ College for Women (now Douglass College of Rutgers University) where she was active in productions of college theater and president of the French House. She began her teaching career at Millville High School where she also directed plays and public speaking contests. She left teaching for 15 years to raise a family and during that time tutored French and worked with Dr. Marion Little of Glassboro State College to establish and conduct a speech remediation program in Vineland. She returned to full time teaching French language classes at Vineland High School until she retired in 1979. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Salvatore Serra, of Vineland; daughter, Stephanie and her husband John Suzenski; son Paul and his wife Mary Serra; daughter Patricia and her husband Samuel Ricci, Jr.; son Michael and his wife Kristi Serra; grandchildren Briana, Christa, Matthew, Dante, Craig, Courtney, Benjamin and Abigail; great-grandchild Ethan; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Anna Pallaver; brother-in-law Joseph and wife Laura Serra; sisters-in-law, Mary Landi, Carmella Casella, Rose Serra and Ellen Serra. Edvige was predeceased by her infant son Stephen P. Serra; brothers, Emil and Eugene Pallaver; and sister Olga Cantino. A church visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 am to 10:30 am at St. Isidore The Farmer Church, 1655 Magnolia Road, Vineland, NJ followed by a memorial mass to be held at 10:30 am from St. Isidore The Farmer Church. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland.
