Obituary of Archimede Russo

Archimede "Archie" Russo 85 of Vineland passed away on Wednesday November 3, 2010, in the Bishop McCarthy Residence. Born in Postiglione Italy to the late Aristide Armando and Carmela (Catanese) Russo moving to New York with his wife Antonietta (Capraro) in 1952 then to Vineland in 1995. When he came to the US he came alone until he was certain he would be able to support his family. Archie was employed by Adele Simpson in New York most of his career. He began his tailoring career working on mens suits moving on to womens dresses. Because of his reputation he was recurted by a former employer to manufacture a suit for the first lady Jacqueline Kennedy. With Simpson's shop he made dresses for Lady Bird Johnson, the 1972 inauguration gownb for Pat Nixon and one for Barbara Bush to close out his career in 1989. The Nixon inauguration gown is now on display at the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, Calif. Archie enjoyed listening to classical, opera and neopolitian music. His favorite entertainment was comedies and doing crossword puzzles. He enjoyed the company of his family and friends, traveling the world with his wife, tinkering on projects around the house, but especially spending time with his grandchildren.
