Obituary of Howard F Proctor
Howard Proctor Decorated World War II Hero
Howard Proctor 87, of Vineland passed away on January 15, 2007 at Genesis Elder Care in Millville after a lengthy illness.
Born in Framingham Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Fred and Hattie Proctor. He worked, after school, in a local lumber yard while he attended Northboro High School. Upon graduation he joined the National Guard, in 1943 he was sent of Fort Dix where he was assigned to the 90 th Division Army Reserve. Later that year his Division was called overseas. Howard fought in many battles. He was decorated for his heroic acts throughout France. He received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with two oak leaf Clusters, and the Purple heart with two oak leaf Clusters.
He was very proud of the honor bestowed on him in 2006, He was awarded the Maurice Chevalier Legion of Honor from the French government, this is the higest award given to a civilian.
He was married to Alma (Hogan) for 65 years. She passed away in May 2006. After he was discharged from the Army he worked 25 years in banking, then 8 years in Atlantic City Casino banks. He owned and operated a small business in Vineland for 8 years.
Howard received the 4 th degree in the Knights of Columbus in the 50' s. John F. Kennedy was in his ordination Class.
He as his wife loved animals and made room in their home for numerous cats and dogs.
During his retirement yrars, Howard worked for Bud's Pet Care Service. He enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and bowling.
He was predeceased by his brothers Robert, Edwin, and David; as well as one sister Helen (2006). He is survived by his sister Pat MacFarland of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, nephew Daniel Hogan and his wife Shirley of Massachusetts, nephew Allan Proctor of Ohio and David Proctor of Providence, Rhode Island and other nephews and nieces.
