Obituary of Douglas Kenneth Pollard

Douglas Kenneth Pollard passed away on Saturday , January 29, at the age of 89. He was born on September 25, 1921, to Edward and Edna Pollard in Beacon, NY. After the untimely death of his mother in 1922, Douglas and his brother Edward were raised in Vineland by his grandmother, Meta Bartmer, and then by various relations after the onset of the Depression in 1929. he graduated from Vineland high School in 1940. In 1942, he married Virginia Martinelli, who was his loving wife until her death in 1988. During World War II, Douglas served his country bravely in the South Pacific aboard the U.S.S. LEYTE, where he earned the rank yeoman, first-class. After the war, he returned to raise his family in Vineland, working for 35 years as an agent for Allstate Insurance. A man who persevered through the loss of his parents, the Great Depression, and the war, his hard-won success is a truly inspiring story. he will be remembered as a loving father, a devoted husband, and an ardent patriot. Douglas is survived by his three daughters, Shirley and Mark Grussenmeyer, Patti Pollard and Carol Corson, as well as his grandchildren: Jon-Mark and Timothy Grussenmeyer and Ken and Ginny Corson, as well as four great-grandchildren. Douglas is also survived a wife of 21 years Eleanore and her children Win, Jeff and Peter Kessler
