Obituary of Emmanuela Pendola

Emmanuela M. Pendola(Iorio), 92, passed away and went to the Lord on December 19, 2008 at Kessler Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Emma resided at Heritage Village in Hammonton, NJ before her death. She was born in Manhattan, New York, NY in 1916 to Ercole amd Anna (Maiello) Iorio. Upon losing her parents, Emma and her sisters resided with the Sisters of Charity Orphanage in New York City. It was there that she learned her skills of sewing, lace making, cooking and aviary keeping. She relocated to Vineland with her sisters and her step-father Cosmo DeLuca. She attended and graduated from Sacred Heart School. She further developed her seamtress skills working at local clothing companys and met and marrried her husband, Peter Pendola Sr. while working at Rosenthal Clothing Company. Emma was adevoted homemaker and volunteer in the community. She was very active in the Republican party in her early years in Vineland, a member of the Cancer Society for more than 50 years and a lifelong member and contributor to PBS TV. She was President of the Sacred Heart PTA and loved making "candied apples" for the school bazaars. Among other organizations, Emma was a member of the Catholic Daughtes of America and American Red Cross for 50 years working on blood drives. She also was the director of the "Needlework Guild" collecting layettes for needy mothers. She loved and worked on the Tiny Tim Drive for many years. Emma was an avid Scrabble player, watcher of Jeopardy and the cooking channel, loved seashore walks with her sisters, crabbing in Sea Isle City and trips to the casinos. She is survived by her three daughters, Katherine Malyk of Lafayette, Indiana, Eleanor Jolley of Vineland, Barbara Plunkett and her husband Brian of Maui, Hawaii, her son, Peter Pendola Jr. and his wife Patricia, of Vineland,son-in-law, William Jolley of Mantua, grandchildren, Robert and Sherry Westergoard II, Anthony and Alisa Westergoard, Nadia and Jason Heffner, Jonathan and Stephanie Jolley, Kristi and Carlos Mercado, Nicole Pendola, Amy Pendola, Jennifer Gioridana, great grandchildren, Robert westergoard III, Lea Westergoard, Cody Simmerman, Amanda Simmerman, Savannah Simmerman, Briannah Simmerman, Anthony Simmerman Jr, Michael Jolley, Sebastian Mercado, Dominic Mercado, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and caregivers, David Windle, Betty Kumeh, and Zena Discusara. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Pendola Sr in 1979 and her sisters Madeline Possenti and Esther Pace.
