Obituary of Salvatore Mistretta

Sam was born in Vineland to parents that immigrated from Italy in the early 1900s. Sam's family cleared land in East Vineland and established and helped many other immigrant Italians as they entered into America. His father, Ignazio, bought a small farm in South Vineland and was a successful, well known farmer. Sam held varied occupations until settling into employment with Progresso Foods for 27 years as Distribution Manager. Upon retiring, Sam, created and opened a green house locally, under the name of Sam's Plants. He sold various plants including the best tomato plants in the area. In the following years, he was active in the Italian community and proud of this Italian heritage. Sam was one of the founders and President of the Sicilian American Club of South Jersey; founder and President of the Senior Action Club of Vineland; a member of the Cumberland County Board of Aging. Sam was active in many community affairs, including coaching many youth softball teams. Sam was deeply involved with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He left them a legacy and was an example of a loving, hard working, fortuitous individual and is proof that you can raise yourself to greatness from humble beginnings. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
