Obituary of Ernest M. Bertino

Ernest M. Bertino, 84, of Vineland And Ocean City, NJ, passed away on Friday Feb. 25 at the SJ HospiceCare in Bridgeton. Born in Vineland, Ernie was a life long resident. He was a 1944 graduate of Vineland High School. Ernie received an Honorable Discharge from the US Army after serving during WWII. He was a rifleman and heavy equipment operator while on the island of Leyte in the Philippines. Ernie was awarded the Asiatic Pacific, Good Conduct, WWII Victory and Philippines Independence medals. After returning to Vineland, he was employed as machine shop operatorfor Pagano Brothers for 6 years. In 1952, he started Vineland Auto Electric on Delsea Drive in Vineland. It is still family owned til this day. Ernie enjoyed his Bahamas and Ocean City fishing trips with his family and friends. The summers in Ocean City was his favorite time of the year. He enjoyed jet ski riding with his grandchildren and riding bikes on the boardwalk. His main hobby was woodworking, which gave him many hours enjoyment making things for his family and friends.
