Obituary of Gloria Alma Mattioli

Gloria (Davenport) Mattioli, 84, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2011 in Boca Raton, Florida after a lengthy illness. Gloria was born May 10, 1926 to William and Catherine (Thiel) Davenport. She was raised in East Camden. She attended the Davis school with her Aunts Mary and Dorothy, than continued on to Abington High School. Gloria wanted to be a nurse so she had her Aunt Dorothy takes her to enlist in the military. She attended the Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Camden where she received her degree as a registered nurse. She began working as a nursing supervisor at West Jersey Hospital in Camden, there she met and fell in love with Elmer Mattioli who was a surgical resident. They married in 1954 and settled in Vineland, NJ where they raised their three children: Linda, Elmer and Billy. Together they opened up a surgical practice. Gloria assisted Elmer in the operating room at Newcomb Hospital and ran the practice as an office manager. After her husband's death in 2002, Gloria moved to their condominium in Boca Raton. Gloria enjoyed golfing, having won many championships at Buena Vista Country Club; she enjoyed a good game of bridge and socializing in the sun with her friends. She enjoyed going to dinner and the movies. Gloria will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all that knew her. Gloria leaves behind her three children: Linda Mattioli, Elmer Mattioli and William "Billy" Mattioli and her grandchildren Luke Evans, Michele Mattioli, Nicholas Mattioli, Christie Mattioli and Sophia Mattioli. A Funeral Home Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:30 am to 11:30am at Rone Funeral Service followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 from Sacred Heart Church, 1010 East Landis Avenue, Vineland. Entombment will follow in Siloam Cemetery, Vineland.
