Obituary of Anthony "Tony" Pepper

Anthony "Tony" Pepper, 99, of Deerfield, FL, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, January 10, 2025. Anthony was born in Vineland, NJ on March 15, 1925. He resided at 12 S. 7th St. during his childhood, attending Sacred Heart Grammar and High School. Anthony continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business and Fine Arts program, studying business with a concentration as a pianist. Anthony was an avid athlete, excelling at basketball and football. He started as quarterback during his junior year at Sacred Heart High School, the last year the school had a football team. Anthony continued as a sportsman throughout his life, participating in the Vineland leagues of baseball, fast-pitch, and slow-pitch softball. He was also an enthusiastic golfer and bowler. Anthony was a World War II veteran, and served in the U.S. Army as a pianist performing at the Chicago USO. In Chicago, Anthony met his first wife, Marion. They were married in Chicago in 1946. After his time in the service, Anthony moved back to Vineland with Marion, where they raised their four boys. In Vineland, Anthony went to work at Venice Maid Company, the family business, eventually becoming a partner with his brother Lawrence. Later, Anthony started TriCity Paper with Lawrence in 1976. He was an integral part of the business up until the time of his death. Anthony met Toby Docteroff in 1990, fell in love, and married in 1993. Anthony and Toby had a beautiful marriage and were happily married for over 30 years. Together they played golf, travelled, bowled, and made wonderful friendships. Anthony is survived by his wife Toby and his four boys: Bob Pepper (Debbie), Mark Pepper (Peggy), Tony Pepper (Polly), and Danny Pepper. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Bob Jr. (Jen), Kris, Steven, Melissa, Robin (Chris), Jennifer (Brandon), Katelyn (Kyle), Stephanie (Arlen), John, and sixteen great-grandchildren. Anthony is also survived by his nephew Larry Pepper (Lynn), Toby's daughters Jamie Schaefer (Bonnie) and Sherri Jaquays (Rusty), Toby's granddaughter Anna (Josh), her great-grandchildren Lennon and Judah, and numerous other nephews, nieces, and cousins. Anthony is predeceased by his brothers Lawrence Pepper (Attelina), John Pepper (Marcella), niece Dorris DiPaola (Alfred) and Toby's granddaughter, Lauren Jaquays. Anthony had many great friends during his life. He was a devout Notre Dame Football Fan.. GO IRISH! A funeral home visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 12pm to 2pm followed by a funeral service at 2pm from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland.
