Obituary of Charles J Schoppel

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles James Schoppel Jr. on January 3rd, 2025, at Jefferson Hospital following a brief illness, with his family by his side. Charles was 87 years old and a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Born to Charles and Mildrid (Millie) Rossi Schoppel, he grew up in a family that valued hard work and strong connections. Charles proudly served in the Army National Guard, where he was discharged in 1964, and later served in the Army until 1967. His commitment to service was a testament to his character, and he carried that same dedication into his personal and professional life. Charles spent his career building a life centered on family, friends, and his passions. A true car enthusiast, he was known as an avid used car salesman and ran S&S Sales Used Car business until his passing. Before that, he worked as a truck driver and later as a manager at RDS Trucking in Vineland, NJ, where he spent many years before opening his own business, C&G Trucking, after RDS's closure in 1984. In addition to his career, Charles, know to his friends as "Soupy", was an amateur drag racer and enjoyed spending time with his friends, particularly during his morning tea breaks at Tony's Lunch at the Vineland Produce Auction. He loved talking with his close-knit circle of friends, who appreciated his wit, humor, and kindness. He will be greatly missed by his dearest friends Jack, Richard and Ronnie. Charles was a loving family man. He shared 58 years of marriage with his wife, Gloria (Toffenetti) Schoppel, and together they raised a daughter, Deborah, and her husband, Frank Lupperger IV. His grandchildren, Frank Charles (Kelsey Dunn), Nicole (Jonathon Hameier), and Shane Lupperger, were a source of immense pride and joy, and he cherished every moment with them. As "Big Pop," he adored spending time with his great-grandchildren: Alex and Aiden Hameier and Wyatt Lupperger. Charles is survived by his wife, Gloria Schoppel; his daughter, Deborah and son-in-law Frank Lupperger IV; grandchildren, Frank Charles and wife Kelsey Lupperger, Nicole and husband Jonathon Hameier, and Shane Lupperger; great-grandchildren, Alex Hameier, Aiden Hameier, and Wyatt Lupperger; and his brother-in-law Albert and Brenda (Grotti) Toffenetti, and Max and Joanne (Spadoni) Toffenetti. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mildrid Schoppel; his brother and sister-in-law, James and Tina (Muller) Schoppel; and his infant sister, Anna Schoppel. A church visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9th, 2025, at St. Michael's RC Church (Queen of Angels) in Minotola, NJ, from 9 AM to 11 AM, with a Mass beginning at 11:15 AM. Burial will follow at Lady of Victories Cemetery in Landisville, NJ. Donations, in Charles's memory, may be made to St. Michael`s RC Church (Queen of Angels). 504 West Ave, Minotola, NJ Arrangements are under the care of Rone Funeral Home in Vineland, NJ.
