Obituary of John Petrini
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Petrini Sr., on Thursday, November 21, a remarkable man who touched countless lives with his strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family. Born and raised in Richland, NJ, John's life was a testament to hard work, deep love, and living with purpose.
In John's early years were marked by his prowess as a star baseball player, showcasing his natural talent and determination. He later served as a medic in the Army embodying bravery and compassion while caring for his fellow servicemen. Following his military service, John brought that same commitment to the NJ State Troopers, where he served in the ID Department, specializing in finger printing and photography, earning the distinguished title of Detective Sergeant over a 20 year career. His badge number was 1947.
At the center of John's life was his 67-year love story with Jean (née Shannon). Married September 7, 1957, their marriage was a beacon of devotion, partnership, and joy, creating a family that became the cornerstone of his legacy.
A man of many talents, John and his wife beginning in 1971, built Richland Carpet Company, a thriving business rooted in trust, hard work, and community values. But his true passion was his love for horses. A two time celebrated Thoroughbred Breeders' Association "Breeder of the Year" recipient, John raised countless champions, though none held a more special place in his heart than Joey P., a Monmouth Park legend and a NJ fan favorite.
John's life was also filled with simple moments that will forever be cherished by those who loved him. Summers in Ocean City, NJ, were spent building memories with his grandchildren. He loved a good card game and had an artist's heart, enjoying coloring competitions with his wife.
John is survived by his loving wife, Jean; his children, John Petrini Jr. (Roseanne), Joseph Petrini, Joan Petrini, and Jay Petrini; his grandchildren, Megan Bogdan (Dan), Kelly DiPaola, Kathryn Petrini, Joseph Petrini (Elisa), Erica Petrini, J.R. Petrini, Emily Petrini, and Jay Petrini; and his great-grandchildren, Ava Bogdan, Jack Bogdan, Luke Bogdan, Jayson Petrini, and Joseph Petrini. Along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Grossi) Petrini; brothers Joseph Petrini (Marie), Ben Petrini (Margaret); sister Regina Mesiano (Dominic); sister in law Barbara Bellus (John); brothers in law Paul Shannon (Winnie), Bob Shannon (Jean), Wayne Shannon (Claire); and his daughter- in- law Kathryn Petrini.
John's life was one of strength, unshakable values, and love.
