Obituary of Maurice Kaufman
Maurice Kaufman, 94, died on February 12, after a long illness. He was born in Manhattan and graduated from City College of New York. He worked as a chemical engineer for several years, then adopted an alternative life style with his first wife (Sylvia Weingast Kaufman who pre-deceased him in 1974) moving to Vineland and building a chicken farm in 1950. Maurice was elected president of the Vineland Farmers Union Egg Producers Cooperative and was also active in the Farmers Cooperative Association. After retiring from farming, Maurice worked at Shalick Mills. He then became the Volunteer County Coordinator, Counseling for Health Insurance for Medicare Enrollees (CHIME) Program for Cumberland County. He was awarded the Beneficiary Service Honor Award by CHIME in 1999. For many years he volunteered as a docent at The Museum of American Glass at Wheaton Village. Most recently, Maurice has been living in Yonkers, NY, with his wife of over thirty years, Elaine Weinstock Kaufman. He is survived by his wife, brother Lewis (Mae); two daughters, Fredda and Liz (Aaron Reznick); stepsons David (Ann) and Robert (Judy), four grandchildren, Luda, Hannah Jo, Ben and Dan, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was a man of great wit and wisdom and will be missed by many.
