Obituary of Dorothy R. Hopkins

Dorothy Ruth Hopkins, 92, of Vineland, New Jersey, passed away on July 15, 2024 at Inspira Medical Center in Elmer. Dorothy was born in 1932 in Malaga to the late Harry W. Hopkins and Margaret Richman Hopkins. She went to high school at Clayton High School and went on to earn a BA degree from Asbury College in Kentucky. Dorothy received her master's degree in education from Glassboro State College. She worked as a teacher for many years and then principal of the Main Road School. One of her biggest achievements as a teacher was teaching French to her elementary students through a unique closed circuit TV program and making it a theme of the school. As a principal, another accomplishment that she was very proud of was introducing space exploration to her students. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved entertaining. She was an avid Phillies fan and enjoyed reading and traveling. She was active in the Little Theater of Vineland. Dorothy grew up in the Malaga Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the Vineland Methodist Church. Dorothy is survived by her nieces and nephews, Karen Hopkins, Joyce Rigdon, Nicole Swansen Hopkins (Ted), Larry Mander, Bob Mander, John Hopkins (Nha) and Jim Hopkins (Debbie); as well as her grand nephews and grand nieces, Grant Alfred Swansen, Ethan Hopkins, Julia Hopkins, Andrew Hopkins, Jessica Mander, Joy Mander, and Isaac Mander. A funeral home visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 10am to 11am followed by a Methodist funeral service beginning at 11am from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow in Siloam Cemetery, Vineland.
