Obituary of Harold R. Ravitz

On Saturday, June 29, 2024, Harold Ravitz, age 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. He was a long-time resident of Vineland, NJ. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Delores, his two children, Bryan Ravitz (Windy) and David Ravitz (Maria) and grandchildren, Jamie, Michael, Ashton and Bella. He is also survived by niece Beverly Graham (Tom), Bernie Merer (Trudy), Lori Lesser (Robert) and many great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Max and Rose Ravitz, sister, Sarah Ravitz, and sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Harris Merer. Harold was born on December 4, 1935. He was raised in Brooklyn, NY until his family relocated to Vineland to run a chicken farm. He served in the US Military, Marines Corps, during the Korean War. He obtained his master's degree in special education and served in the Vineland school district for well over 30 years. He had a passion for learning and passing on his knowledge to the children. Although, his career spanned over 30 years he felt his greatest accomplishment was advancing children with special education needs, he spent summers running the Enrichment Program and will be remembered for his patience and kindness. He was the president of the Beth Israel Men's Club and an active member of the Beth Israel Synagogue. He spent summers in West Virginia and celebrated his 40th anniversary in Hawaii. He loved going to the Jersey shore with his family. He was an avid sports fan, he never missed a sporting event, especially when his children, or grandchildren were playing. You could always see him in the stands wearing a proud smile and giving words of encouragement. He enjoyed all Philadelphia professional teams and watching them with friends and family. Once you were a friend of Harold, there was never anything he would not do for them, whether it was playing a game of cards, meet for a quick bite, or just be there when he was needed. If you were a friend, you were a friend for life. A funeral home service will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 2pm at Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, followed by burial at Alliance Cemetery, 970 Gershal Avenue, Norma.
