Obituary of Gaetano Abate

Gaetano "Tom" Abate, 84, of Vineland, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on February 11, 2024, beside his beloved wife of 63 years, Marie. Tom was born to Salvatore and Ruth (Polhamus) Abate, Sr. on November 20, 1939, in Millville, New Jersey. He worked as an Ironworker, Foreman and Superintendent for J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc. Construction for 36 years. Tom was an avid fisherman and loved spending time on his boat and going to Avalon. He also enjoyed going to the casinos with his wife and trying his luck on the slots. But more than anything, Tom truly adored his grandchildren and took pride in being their Pop-Pop. He was also fortunate to be surrounded by the company of lifelong friends and extended family. Tom is survived by his wife Marie (Scarpa) Abate; three children, Gaetano "Tom" Abate, Jr. (Carmen), Daniel Abate (Christopher), and Andrew Abate (Anne); four grandchildren, Nicholas Abate (Brittany), Abigail Marie Abate, Allison Mae Abate, and Ava Mary Jane Abate. Tom is also survived by his brother Salvatore Abate (Claudia), and two sisters Marianna (Abate) Freas and Ruth (Abate) DePasquale (Bob), and many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by everyone who was blessed to know him. A memorial celebration of his life will held at a later date.
