Obituary of John V Bernardini Jr

John Vincent Bernardini Jr., 96, of Voorhees, NJ and formerly of Vineland, NJ passed away peacefully on July 1, 2023 in Voorhees surrounded by his beloved daughters Lisa and Maria and family. He was born in 1926 to the late John and Jennie (Vai) Bernardini and was a life long resident of Vineland. John was a 1944 graduate of Vineland High School where he played varsity basketball for two years winning the county and city series titles. Upon graduation, John enlisted in the US Navy and served as a torpedo man on PT Boat 595 in the South Pacific during World War II. He received the South Pacific Theatre Ribbon, The American Theatre Ribbon, The Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He also received the State of New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal and the Cumberland County Military Service medal. He remained in touch with his PT boat friends throughout his life. His service to his country was important to him. Following his tour of duty and honorable discharge from the Navy, he entered Rider College and graduated in 1951 with a BS degree in Journalism and Marketing. He joined the American Brands Company working as a marketing salesman and district manager for five years in New Jersey. Cowan Printing and Advertising of Bridgeton became his next employment as an account executive salesman. He retired in 1990 after 32 years with the firm. During this period, he was a member and past executive officer of Graphic Arts Club of Philadelphia, The Junior Executive Club of Delaware Valley and the Poor Richards Club of Philadelphia. He held a life time membership in the Knights of Columbus Council 2531. He was also a lifetime parishioner of Christ The Good Shepherd Parish, Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Vineland. John was an avid Philadelphia Sports fan, especially the Phillies. He enjoyed dining out, travelling and spending weekends in Ocean City, NJ. But most of all he was a devoted family man who loved spending time with them, participating in their events, watching their sports activities and just talking and telling them about his life. He was an interesting storyteller and enjoyed their captivated minds. John was proud of his family and their accomplishments. Love of his family was the hallmark of John's life. Nothing gave him more pleasure than being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was affectionately called "Great Pop". He enjoyed all family parties and celebrations of milestones. John also loved meeting for polenta parties with his cousins and reminiscing about all the fun of his youth. He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Mirmanesh (Dr. Jay) of Voorhees, NJ and Maria Alvino Esq. (Ernest Jr. Esq.) of Mullica Hill; his four grandchildren, Dr. John Mirmanesh (Holly) of Haddonfield, Dr. Michael Mirmanesh (Dr. Devon) of Indian Rocks Beach, FL and Dr. Grace Alvino of Philadelphia, PA and Ernest Alvino III of Colorado Springs, Co; six great-grandchildren, Johnny, Amelia and James Mirmanesh of Haddonfield and Michael Jr, Maggie and Marabella of Florida; brother-in-law, Frank Abbruscato; as well as many nieces, nephews cousins, and friends whom he loved and enjoyed.
