Obituary of Anthony J Cerrato

Anthony J. "Tony" Cerrato, 76, of Buena Vista Township passed away on May 17, 2023 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born in 1946 at Newcomb Hospital in Vineland and raised in Newfield, NJ. He worked on the farm with his brother, Mike, from grammar school through high school. He started playing the saxophone in his very early years earning him the best musician award when he graduated from Vineland High School in 1964. Tony played with different bands starting at the age of thirteen and continued for over sixteen years. Later, he was involved with The Chords and Group W Three bands. He also played in the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York from 1965-1968 as E-5 Sergeant for the United States Army. After the service he became a barber for 55 years and eventually owned and operated Anthony Joseph Barber Shop. Customers looked forward to his great jokes. He was a family man and above all loved his wife, children and grandchildren deeply. He enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, cooking especially his fantastic crabs and linguini in white sauce, making homemade tomato sauce from tomatoes in his garden and making his own wine. He would cook anything you wanted. Tony was a devout Catholic faithfully serving as an usher at Divine Mercy Catholic Church (St. Francis of Assisi) in Vineland for many years at 7:30am mass forming good friendships with other ushers. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Sharon (Laielli) Cerrato; his two daughters, Heather Miletta (James) and Holly Capriotti (Michael). Tony had five wonderful grandchildren, whom he adored and enjoyed very much. John Peter Alongi, Jayson Michael Miletta, Marco Antonio Capriotti, Milania Amelina Capriotti and Avalina Antonia Capriotti. He is also survived by his brother, Nicholas Cerrato (Veronica); sister-in-law, Marie Cerrato; brother-in-law, Bruce Laielli (MaryAnn), as well as his nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Rachael (Lisi) Cerrato; brother, Michael Cerrato; and his in-laws, Ralph and Esther (Molinelli) Laielli. Funeral home visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, May 24, 2023 from 6pm to 8pm and again on Thursday morning, May 25, 2023 from 9am to 10am at Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ. A funeral mass will be at 10:30 am at Divine Mercy Parish, 23 West Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow in St Mary's Cemetery, Union Road, Vineland.
