Obituary of Ann G D'Ippolito
Ann Giacalone D'Ippolito, 93
Founder of The Courtyard School
Ann Giacalone D'Ippolito, 93, beloved by her family and dear friends, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 4, 2023 with her cherished dog Cori by her side in her home in Cape May Point.
Ann graduated from Chestnut Hill College earning her bachelor's degree in music and was a classical pianist. She then went on to receive a master's degree in human development from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Ann taught for 50 years in many schools in Vineland including Sacred Heart High School and as adjunct professor for Fairleigh Dickenson before founding her own school in 1983, The Courtyard School, where she was called "Ms. Ann" by everyone. Ann wrote an educational column in the Daily Journal for several years, and was the first organist at St. Isidore's Church. Ann retired to Cape May Point where she attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, and continued to write, cook with her family and friends and garden. Ann will be most remembered for her devotion to Our Blessed Mother, her unfailing wisdom, and her strength.
Ann is survived by her beloved children Lisa and her husband Joseph Sloan of Medford, Anita and her husband Scott MacDonald of Vineland, and Lewis and his wife Rose of Sewell; her grandchildren, Christopher J. Sloan, and Laura Anna Sloan, Danielle MacDonald Wood and her husband Christopher Wood, Douglas MacDonald and his wife Katherine Bascom, Madeline Ann MacDonald, Lewis D'Ippolito and fiancé Erin Gentek, Julia Ann D'Ippolito; great grandchildren, Adam Scott Wood and Ryan Christopher Wood; her nephews, godson Bart Giacalone and his wife Kathleen Lundquist, Anthony Giacalone and his wife Sandra, goddaughter Diane Scattolini, dearest friend Nicola Wynnefield, and her many cousins. Ann was predeceased by her cherished eldest child, Christina D'Ippolito and her dear brother Anthony V. Giacalone.
A church visitation will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 9:15am to 11:15am followed by a funeral liturgy at 11:30 a.m. from Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Isidore Church, 1169 Magnolia Rd in Vineland and celebrated by Monsignor John H. Burton. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland.
