Obituary of Sara L. Riggio

Sara (Trasferini) Riggio, 71, died March 18, 2023, surrounded by her family. Sara was born August 21, 1951, in Vineland New Jersey to Joseph and Catherine Trasferini, their fourth and final child. She was raised in nearby Landisville with her two sisters, Eleanor and Evelyn; her brother, Ugo; and many close cousins. Sara attended Donini and Sacred Heart schools. After graduating from Sacred Heart, she attended Maison de Paris and started her career as a cosmetologist under the mentorship of celebrity stylist Tommy Serra. In her twenties, Sara traveled to California, Hawaii, Italy, and Las Vegas before marrying and moving back to Landisville where she gave birth to Brett and Jocelyn. It was at this time that she started her cosmetology business in the basement of her mom and dad's house; eventually, she moved into her own salon. She owned and operated Sara's Creative Designs for 40 years until her death. Sara is survived by her two children, Brett (Lisa) and Jocelyn; sisters Eleanor Souders (Wayne) and Evelyn Laguna (Ted); stepsons Bione and Anthony; five grandchildren, Theodore, William, Maxwell, Elle, and Anthony; and many nieces and nephews. Sara thrived in the arts, expressing her talent through dance, voice, theater, and painting. She was involved in local theater and played a large part in directing many productions at her church. Sara always had her own sense of style; her taste in fashion was unparalleled. There was never a trend she needed to follow because she set her own trends. Her clothes have appeared on stages in Reno, Manhattan, Philadelphia, and all over New Jersey. She truly was a fashion icon. She had a way of making things more beautiful than she found them and did so effortlessly. Sara forever marched to the beat of her own drum. She was always unapologetically her authentic self. Sara left us in a most dramatic way which seems all too fitting for her life. She will be forever missed and loved. "The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been before." -Albert Einstein Funeral home visitations will be held on Friday evening , March 24, 2023 from 6pm to 8pm and again on Saturday morning from 10am to 11am followed by a funeral service at 11am from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland.
