Obituary of Biagio Infranco
Dr. Biagio Infranco, 93, of Vineland, passed away on November 15, 2022, at his home surrounded by the love of his family. Born and raised in Montevago, Sicily, Biagio was the fourth of seven children born to Leonardo and Pietra (Cicio) Infranco. He was the loving husband of Sarina (Porcaro) Infranco; the proud father of Piera Gravenor (John), Nina Ferraro, and Len Infranco (Kelli); loving Nonno of Alicia Fragoso (Alex), Alexandra Volk (Dave), John Ferraro (Juliana), Drew Ferraro, Spencer Infranco, Ethan Infranco, and Isabella Infranco; and Bisnonno to three great-grandchildren Adrianna Gravenor, AJ Fragoso, and Aiden Fragoso.
After graduating from college, he received his Doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Naples. He was in private practice in Italy for two years and was then drafted in the Italian Army as a Lieutenant in the Veterinary Corps where he served for two years.
In 1957, Biagio emigrated to the United States to marry his wife Sarina (Porcaro) and like every other immigrant he faced and understood the hardships of leaving his home, his family, his friends, and establishing himself in a new country whose language and culture were completely foreign and unfamiliar. Biagio and Sarina built a new life together and successfully navigated life`s journey with determination and love.
He enjoyed a thirty-five year career in federal service with the US Department of Agriculture, which culminated in leading the mid-Atlantic region as the Director for Meat & Poultry Inspection. Upon retirement he assisted his wife in the running of her business, Royal Travel,
and quietly and privately volunteered many hours to help individual Italian immigrants with their needs as they traversed the same difficult transition that he did so many years ago.
It is, however, the support and promotion of Italian culture in America that was Biagio`s passion. He was an original member of the Sicilian American Club of South Jersey, now the Italian Cultural Foundation, and served two terms as President and served as a member of the Board of Directors for over twenty years. He was a member of Padre Pio Parish.
Family, however, was at the heart of all that Biagio considered to be important in life and it was his family which has given him his greatest joy. Throughout the years, many hours were spent at
the dinner table sharing his thoughts on life, bestowing his wisdom and regaling all with his stories, which usually started with the phrase, "in the life..".
He is survived by his sister, Rosina Infranco, sisters-in-law Antonia and Lucia Infranco, and brother-in-law Dr. Anthony Romeo, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, and family members Salvatore Infranco, Antonia and Nunzio Giambalvo, Nina and
Salvatore Giambalvo, Dr. Nino Infranco, Paul and Antoinette Infranco, Dr. Frank and Marilyn Porcaro, and Lilla Romeo.
At the request of the family, services will be private.
