Obituary of Josefina Marrero

Rone Funeral Service 856-691-4222 Josefina (Castro Marquez) Marrero, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, godmother, and friend went to her resting place on October 10, 2022. She was born March 19, 1927, in Catano Puerto Rico to the late Juan "Prin" Castro and Camila Márquez Rollet. Josefina who was known to many as Fina, Mami Fina, Josephine and Josie came to the US mainland in 1948 to live in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn NY. She worked for the USPS for a short period of time before working in the clothing industry in Brooklyn as a quality control inspector. In Brooklyn, she met and married Pedro Marrero and began her family. In the early 1980's she moved to NJ to the Port Norris/Dividing Creek area of Cumberland County where she farmed the land and raised several farm animals before moving to Bridgeton NJ where she lived for over 35 years before moving to Vineland in 2022. She worked for the Cumberland County Green Thumb program until her retirement in 1989. During her time with the program she worked at the Cumberland County Senior Center located in the Cumberland County manor. After she retired she continued to volunteer at the manor as well as the Margaret Winchester Blind Center. At the manor and the blind center she made long lasting friendship with her "sister" Elizabeth Maguire and recently deceased Rosemary Burton. She was an excellent cook and an avid crafter, teaching her daughters how to crotchet. She loved music, dancing, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. Josefina was a honorary member of the Lenape Lenapi Indian Tribe. Josefina is survived by her daughters, Milagros M. Casado, Nancy Barnes (Dwayne Sr), Lourdes Cook (Jimmie), Josephine Kantrowitz and Nellie Márquez (Kenneth Jr); grandchildren, Elizabeth Vargas, Nannette Fiorani (Kevin), Guy A. Marrero Sr, Lauren C. Holden (Dwight), Celia A. Casado, Joseph L. Casado, Dwayne S. Barnes II, Adam G. Kantrowitz, Staci White (Michael Sr.), Jaime Cook, Kenneth D. Levari III (Davina), Christopher M. Levari (Christy) and Melissa L. Garreffi (Nicholas); 31 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and 3 granddogs. She is also survived by her sister Agripina Camacho; her cousin Nery Sbarra, several nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren and her "sister" Elizabeth Maguire. Josefina was predeceased by her beloved son Charlie Marquez; great grandson Brandon Merced; her grandmother Luisa Iglesias; brother Jose Antonio "Tony" Castro; sister-in-law Virginia Castro; sons-in-law: Elias Vargas, Carlos "Charlie" Casado, and Lawrence Kantrowitz and her partner Evaristo Salgado A funeral home visitation will be held on Friday evening, October 14 from 6pm to 8pm at Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ and at the CHURCH on Saturday morning, October 15th from 9:45am to 10:45am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am from Saint Padre Pio Parish - Church Of Our Lady Of Pompeii, 4680 Dante Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow in St Mary's Cemetery, Vineland.
