Obituary of Joseph P. Moffa, Sr.

Joseph P. Moffa Sr. 96, of Malaga passed away May 31, 2022, at home. Joseph was born on April 3, 1926, to the late Louis N. and Lena (Coccaro) Moffa and raised in Landisville, NJ. Joseph attended Vineland Public Schools. He left High School early to enlist in the United States Navy in 1944 and proudly served on the USS Ottawa during WW II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He later completed his GED. On January 10, 1948, Joseph married the love of his life, Madeline J. Gallucci of Malaga, NJ. Together they had three children, Donna, Louis, and Joseph, Jr. Joseph accepted a position with the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) in 1952 and remained there until his retirement in 1983 as Supervisor of Toll Security for all DRPA Bridges. Joseph was dedicated to Public Service for most of his adult life. He was a member of the Landisville Fire Department and later became a member of the Malaga Fire Department. Joseph was a devoted member of Saint Mary`s Catholic Church in Malaga. He sat on the Franklin Township School Board and served on the Franklin Township Economic Development Committee, which he chaired for several years. He was a Charter/Founding Member of the Order Sons of Italy, Joseph P. Moffa Jr. Memorial Lodge #2470 and served as a State Delegate to the National Order Sons of Italy. Joseph was an extraordinarily ordinary man who found joy in the simplest things in life, like going to work, raising a family, serving his community, spending time with his grandchildren, watching the Phillies in the Summer and the Eagles in the Fall. But most of all Joseph enjoyed spending time with his wife Madeline of 66 years before her death in 2014. Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved son Joseph P. Moffa, Jr. in 1982, wife Madeline (Gallucci) Moffa in 2014, and sister Marie (Moffa) Cesare in 2015. He is survived and sadly missed by his daughter Donna (Moffa) Herman and son-in-law Dennis of Cherry Hill; his son Louis J. Moffa Sr. and daughter-in-law Rose (Cuthbert) of Newfield; and his three grandsons, Andrew J. Herman, MD and wife Christine (Williams), Joseph P. Moffa III, DPT and wife Maria (Nicholson), Louis J. Moffa Jr., and sister Betty Ann (Moffa) Maddalena. Additionally, he is survived by his adoring great granddaughter, Olivia Grace Herman, whom he loved dearly. A church visitation will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 9:15am - 11:15am followed immediately by a funeral mass from Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament - St. Michael`s Church, 504 West Avenue, Minotola.
