Obituary of Marilyn Elizabeth Knego

Marilyn Elizabeth Knego, 83, of Vineland, NJ, Passed away on May 30, 2022 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland. She was born in Cleveland, OH on December 20, 1938 to her parents, William and Jane Murray and she moved to New Jersey in the mid-1940s. Marilyn graduated from St. Vincent's High School in 1956. Marilyn met her husband to be, Robert, in the summer of 1959 and discovered that they only lived three blocks from one another in Newark, NJ. She graduated Newark State College in 1960 with a BS in Education and began teaching in a Bloomfield Grammar School. They married in August 1962 and lived in Nutley, NJ and then moved to Linwood, NJ where she started a morning preschool in 1968. She then moved Greensboro, NC for two and a half years. Marilyn and Bob moved to Vineland in 1971 she began substitute teaching while she obtained special education certificate in 1974; continuing her education at Glassboro State and ultimately receiving her Master's Degree. She worked in the Vineland School System as a Learning Disabilities Consultant where she tested and evaluated students with special needs for the I.E.P. Marilyn created individual lesson plans for these special-needs students. Years ago she started playing with a small, plastic musical recorder then continued taking lessons and advanced to a wooden recorder. She played with Amhearst Music, the Princeton Recorder Society. Each year, Marilyn attended a workshop in New England with recorder musicians from America and Europe. She volunteered with the Bridgeton Symphony and sang choir at the Episcopal Church in Bridgeton. Marilyn was an avid volunteer at the Vineland Public Library, the Inspira Medical Center gift shop and Tempesta Di Mari Baroque Orchestra in Philadelphia. She was an early volunteer on the Vineland Council's recycling committee and then one at the county level. She was nominated for a state recognition for her efforts which she received in 1985. She was instrumental in initiating recycling programs for Cumberland County and belonged to the Vineland Conservation League. She loved physical activity, running, cycling, practicing yoga and clamming. She studied karate and at the age of 55 was awarded her black belt. Marilyn is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Bob Knego; her son, David and wife, Yvette; her daughter, Susan; her grandchildren, Jessica (Dom), Sarah and Holly; her brothers, Keith, William (Donna Marie), Greg (Maricel) and Thomas; her nieces and nephews, Dayson (Jessica Passion), Aaron (Kayla Taylor), Gabrielle Murray, Melissa (Sean Conroy); her grand nieces and nephews, Leonardo Taylor, Briana Conroy; her sister-in-law, Ruth Grossberndt; her nieces and nephews-in-law, Debbie (Steve Kish), Kevin (Tammy Grossberndt), Karen (Bob Hackett) and Ronnie Grossberndt; her great nieces and nephews-in law, Heather Kish, Kelly Grossberndt, Mellissa (Nick Pawlyk), Tyler Grossberndt, Kayla Hackett; and her great-grandnephew-in law, Logan; her special friends, Diane Thomas and Ruby Wenren. She is predeceased by her parents, William Murray and Jane Frenchman Murray; her siblings, Martha Crane and Brian Murray; her father and mother-in-law, Harry and Margaret Knego; and her brother-in-law, Ron Grossberndt. Funeral home visitation will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 2pm-4pm at Rone Funeral Service, 1110 E. Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ. A funeral service will be held at 4pm.
