Obituary of Carmella M Galzerano
Carmella (Trommello) Galzerano, 91, of Vineland, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones, on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. Carmella was born in Landisville, NJ, to the late Antonio and Lena (Grimaldi) Trommello on August 17, 1930.
Carmella attended Landisville Primary, Cleary Middle and Vineland High Schools. As one of nine children, she dropped out of school her junior year to help support the family. When she was 16, she met the love of her life Ferdinando (Buddy) Galzerano whom she married in 1952. They would've celebrated 70 years of marriage together on June 21.
While raising her four children, she worked as a full-time teacher's aide at North Delsea Preschool. During this time, she also worked diligently to obtain her GED and attend college part-time; she earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Glassboro State College in 1977. She worked as a teacher until her retirement in 1992 at South Vineland and Dr. William Mennies Elementary Schools.
Some of Carmella's favorite pastimes were sewing, cooking, baking, playing pinochle and hitting the slots in Atlantic City with her mother, brother and sisters. She loved the little things in life and spending meaningful time around the dinner table, laughing and joking with her family. Well-known for her homemade meatballs, raviolis and cookies, with pride she passed down these traditional recipes to her children and grandchildren. Admittedly these recipes have been replicated, but never duplicated.
Remembered for her humor and dry wit, a trip to her house generated countless laughs and sweet memories. Carmella and Buddy never failed to provide endless comedic banter.
She was predeceased by her son Anthony "Tony" Galzerano; sisters Carrie Abriola, Francis Chercowy, Jenny Messore, Bessie Tortu, Suzanne Perdue, and Antoinette "Cookie" Trommello, and her brother Carlo "Duke" Trommello.
Carmella is survived and cherished by her husband Buddy Galzerano and daughters Victoria Athey, Valerie Galzerano, Jamie Malench (Joe) - their children Joseph Jr., Kali, Joshua, and Bethany - and daughter-in-law Lisa Galzerano and her children Anthony (Shannon Tickner), Michael and Sarah. She is also survived by her sister Lucy Baker and sister-in-law Stella Galzerano.
Coming from a large, loud Italian family, she was blessed with the love of countless cousins, nieces and nephews. After the untimely passing of her sister, Cookie, she embraced the privilege of being surrogate grandmom for her great nephew and niece, Joshua, Ella, and the late Aaron Swanson, whom she adored dearly.
Carmella's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses and physicians at Inspira Medical Center of Vineland, who made her very comfortable in her last hours. They also thank her care team from Lighthouse Hospice - especially her compassionate and loving caregiver Shar'on, whom she shared a close bond with.
A church visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 10:30am to 11:30am followed by a funeral mass at 11:30 am from Christ The Good Shepherd Parish - Church Of Sacred Heart, 1010 East Landis Avenue, Vineland.
At the families request in lieu of flowers donations in memory of Carmella may be made to: The charity of one's choice
