Obituary of Margaret Pileiro
Margaret "Peggy" (Spada) Pileiro, 91, of Vineland, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022. The daughter of the late Paulina (Sercletti) and Ambrose Spada, Peggy was born on Jan. 29, 1931 -- the baby sister to 11 siblings: John, James, Mary, Katherine, Frances, Josephine, Anna, Julia, Joseph, Anthony and Albert.
After graduating from Vineland High School in 1949, Peggy went to work at Bellco Glass Company, where she spent 32 years as a glass cutter before retiring in 1993. She was never one to sit still, however, and quickly grew restless at home. Just six months later, Peggy took a job as a foster grandparent at the DCF Regional School's Cumberland Campus on Sherman Ave., where she spent 28 years sharing stories and love with disabled children. "Grandma Peggy" was a fixture at the school, often baking cakes for classroom celebrations and talking about "her kids" with everyone she knew.
Outside of work, Peggy was a true social butterfly and kept a packed schedule. Dancing was her favorite pastime, and she made many friends through dances held by the Single Parents Society. You could also find Peggy listening to the bands at Giampietro and Bruno Melini Park, playing Bingo around town, or having a bite to eat at the Rec Club. She was also a member of Divine Mercy Parish.
Peggy loved her large extended family more than anything else. Nothing gave her more joy than cooking a big meal, making something sweet or entertaining on Christmas Eve. Her door and heart were open to all, and she had a cup of coffee and a smile for anyone who needed it. Her unquenchable zest for life, quirky sense of humor and deep compassion were cherished by all who knew her.
Surviving are Peggy's son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Sandi Pileiro of Vineland; her "favorite" granddaughter Melissa Arnold of Mantua and husband Brian, whom she proudly called grandson; and her loving companion, Angelo Mortara. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Betty Spada; a cousin, Arjorie Moniodis Ingraham; and many treasured nieces and nephews of three generations.
Friends and family are invited to a church visitation on Saturday, February 26th from 8:45am to 9:45am followed by a funeral mass at 10am from Divine Mercy Parish, 23 West Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland.
Everyone is asked to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.
