Obituary of Charles W Gabage

Charles W. Gabage, 76, of Vineland passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 1, 2022 at Cooper University Hospital in Camden. Charlie was larger than life from the time he was a child until his passing. A 1963 graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Charlie went on to receive his B.A. from Villanova University in 1967. Afterward, he enrolled at Rutgers University School of Law receiving his J.D. in 1970 and was the recipient of the Cornelius W. Wickersham, Jr. Award for Constitutional Law. Charlie poured his heart into work at his family law practice, Eisenstat, Gabage & Furman, P.C. in Vineland, never fully retiring and continuing to assist clients until his passing. In addition to the enjoyment he received from helping his clients and working with his partners, Gerald Eisenstat and Harry Furman, Charlie also served as Solicitor of the Vineland Housing Authority, the Cape May Housing Authority and the Ocean City Housing Authority. He was an active member of the American Bar Association, the New Jersey Chapter of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the New Jersey State Bar Association, Cumberland County Bar Association, and New Jersey Trial Lawyers Association. Irrespective of his incredible professional success, what mattered the most to Charlie was family. Between his loving life partner, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, he was rich in love and deeply admired by his family. An avid Villanova fan, Charlie loved attending basketball games and cheering on all things Wildcats. His happiest place was on his boat where Charlie summered for many years in Wildwood alongside his longtime partner, Judy Smith. A traditionalist at heart, Sunday family dinners were frequent and nonnegotiable, always filled with pasta, seafood, bread, red wine and a house full of laughter and love. He made sure holidays were filled with memories and he wholeheartedly abided by his own rule, "Family First". Charlie was his family's rock and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his life partner of 22 years, Judy T. Smith; children Geri Cafiso, Susan O'Hara, Christopher Gabage (Luck), Cara Gabage-Kahn, and Charles "Chaz" Gabage II; grandchildren Carina Cafiso, Cameron Cafiso, Gavin Kahn, Ronan Kahn, Evan Rodgers, Adalyn Gabage and Giovanni Gabage; great-grandchild, Aayan Javier Rodgers; niece and nephew, Linda Provenzano (John), Anthony Caradarel and Deidre Leone (Justin); and great-nephew, Christian Leone. He was predeceased by his parents John and Frances Gabage; brothers, John Gabage and Leo Gabage, and his sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Anthony Cardarel. Funeral home visitations will be held on Monday evening, February 7th from 6pm to 9pm and again on Tuesday morning from 9:15am to 10:15am at Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am from Christ The Good Shepherd Parish - Church Of Saint Isidore The Farmer, 1655 Magnolia Road, Vineland. Entombment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland. Everyone is asked to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.
