Obituary of Florence Josephine Scarpa

On Tuesday, November 9th, Florence Josephine Scarpa peacefully went home to the Lord at the age of 87. "Jo" was born on September 22, 1934 in Bridgeton. A lifelong resident of Vineland she was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. Blessed with a beautiful operatic voice, Jo loved singing in the Sacred Heart and St Francis of Assisi parish choirs, often singing in weddings and funerals. Her favorite piece to sing was Handel's Messiah. She worked for Bell Telephone as an operator and was featured in a national ad campaign for the company. An excellent writer and editor, Jo wrote stories for the Press of Atlantic City. She also worked as a receptionist for Rennoc Corporation for many years. She was also a pioneer in the cable industry contributing instrumentally to the creation of one of South Jerseys first cable companies. Jo was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her three children Valerie Hart ( Michael), Carmele L Magazzu and Frank J Scarpa; her grandchildren, Louis & Denise (Donaghy) Magazzu; Jennifer Magazzu, Joseph and Amanda (Michael) Magazzu; Andrew Magazzu and Juliana Magazzu; two great-grandchildren, Kieran Magazzu and Rory Magazzu; and many nieces and nephews Jo was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Florence Williams; brothers, Sam Williams, Jerry Anzisi; and her sisters, Mary Phifer And Ann Bellum. A church visitation will be held on Saturday, November 20th from 9am to 11am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am from Christ The Good Shepherd Parish - Church Of Sacred Heart, 1010 East Landis Avenue, Vineland. Entombment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland. Everyone is required to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.
