Obituary of Sr. M Geraldine Di Nicola, DM

RONE FUNERAL SERVICE 856-691-4222 Sister M. Geraldine DiNicola, a member of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, Villa Rossello, Newfield, NJ, entered eternal life on September 3, at Misericordia Nursing Center, York, PA, where she had been a resident for the last few weeks. Sister Geraldine born on April 9, 1930, the daughter of the late Gerald and Susan Laposh DiNicola entered the Congregation of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, in York, PA, on September 4, 1945 and professed her Vows on August 30, 1947. Having obtained her BS degree and MA in Elementary Education, she was known for her expertise and dedication as an early child and elementary school educator. Sister Geraldine taught in various schools in Berwick, Hazleton, Hershey, Steelton, Old Forge, PA, and at Holy Child Nursery, York, PA. She taught in Milford and Springfield, MA, Dunkirk, NY, and Brigantine, Millville, Vineland and Swedesboro, NJ. She also served as principal at several of the schools for a number of years. In her later years, she served as Coordinator of Religious Education at St. Mary's Parish, Old Forge, PA until her retirement to Mercy Residence, York in 2015. Known for her friendliness and welcoming manner, Sister Geraldine was well-versed in many areas. She enjoyed writing, especially poetry. She was also talented in music and organized children's choirs in some of the schools where she taught. Cooking, baking and sewing were also some of her hobbies. She was fluent in the Italian language and conducted classes for adults for many years. In addition to her parents, Sister Geraldine was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Anthony and Angelo; sisters, Sister Susanne, also a member of the Daughters of Mercy, and Rosalie Payne. She is survived by her religious community, the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, a brother, Joseph, and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Charles Ocul, AJ at Misericordia Nursing Center Chapel on Wednesday, September 8. Due to Covid restrictions at the facility, the funeral services will be private. A private burial service will take place at Pietá Cemetery on the grounds of Villa Rossello, Newfield, New Jersey.
