Obituary of Helen Freed

Helen (Lipszyc) Freed Born in Bedzin Poland, Helen lived in Vineland, NJ for 65 years before moving to Voorhees. In 2019 she moved closer to her daughter in northern New Jersey. On February 8th after a long illness she peacefully passed holding her daughters hand. She was a Holocaust Survivor, being taken from her home at 16. She toiled at Gabersdorf forced labor camp in Czechoslovakia. The camp was liberated by the Russian army on 6 May 1945. Helen met her husband Edward Freed in a Displaced Persons camp in Germany. Together they moved to Vineland in 1948, worked hard and attained the American Dream. Helen was vivacious, energetic and kind to all. She enjoyed riding her bike through her neighborhood, swimming at the Y, and cooking and eating healthy. She was a wonderful cook, and in her later years added 'cake decorating' to her resume. She baked with love, and gave with love. She worked with her husband and built several businesses over the years from chicken farm to commercial real estate. She was the sole proprietor after her husband's death. She semi-retired in 2013. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed. Helen is survived by her daughter Felicia Freed Cohen (Jesse Cohen) of Tewksbury Township NJ; her son David Freed of Hopkinton MA; grandchildren, Ben and Rachel Cohen of NJ and Jessica and Jonathan Freed of MA; cousin Barbara (Cinger) Roth of Linwood NJ; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 2000; and her sole surviving sister Mancha in 2020. A service will be held at 1pm on Sunday June 27, 2021 at Alliance Cemetery in Norma.
