Dominic Zanghi Sr.

Obituary of Dominic A. Zanghi Sr.

Dominic A. Zanghi, Sr. of Buena Vista Twp., NJ, 88, passed away peacefully at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center after a lengthy illness with cancer. Dominic was born in Landisville on May 11, 1932 to Christie & Jennie (Irrera) Zanghi. In his early years he worked on his family farm and being raised in a typical Italian family you can imagine there were always many large gatherings with his parents, grandparents Mary & Antonio Vingi, aunts, uncles and cousins by the dozens. In the early fifties, it was very common to hang out on "The Avenue" and drive your car up and down Landis Avenue. That is where he met the love of his life Matilda (Tillie). They fell in love and were married in 1953 before leaving to serve his duty in the US Army in the Korean War. Upon his return they lived in Vineland and later moving to Buena where they raised their 5 children. Dominic always wanted to be a truck driver and worked 30 years for Vineland Transit Mix. After retiring in 1981, he started his own site work and excavating business Dom Zanghi & Sons, Inc. where he remained active with his children. He was a member of the American Legion Post 270 in Minotola as well as a long time member of the Teamsters Local 676. He also served as a volunteer member & treasurer for the Richland Fire Dept. You could always count on him to lend a hand whenever there was a need. Thru the years, Dom & Tillie made many friendships. They cherished all the good times with the Zorzi's, Lucchesi's, Rubino's, Marandino's, Crowell's, Berni's, Lillie's and too many to mention whether it was going to the casino, getting together for dinner or playing pinochle. His greatest joy was his family. He & Tillie were there for any Sunday or crab dinner, barbeque, birthday, hay ride, wedding & anniversary. He especially enjoyed his visits with his Uncle Matt & Uncle Joe. He is survived by his children Dominic Zanghi Jr. (Diane), Cheryl Roberts (Allen), Susan Zanghi (companion Steve Pietrosante), Joseph Zanghi (Darlene), grandchildren Lauren Levari, Joe Palmonari (Carrie), Dom Zanghi III, Bob Palmonari, Kelly Quintana (Jaime), Kristi Zanghi, Ashley Ortiz (Misael), Angela Zanghi, Alexandra Zanghi & Nicholas Zanghi, 15 great grandchildren and sister-in-law Marie Dea. He will be missed by all and remain in our hearts forever. He was predeceased by his parents Christie & Jennie Zanghi, his loving wife Matilda of 63 years, his daughter Maria, his grandson Joseph Zanghi, Jr., brother-in-law Oscar Dea and his aunts and uncles. The family would like to give a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and health care workers at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center hospice that provided support, a military service and great care in his final days. Due to COVID-19 restrictions everyone must wear a mask and social distance.
