Obituary of Rosalia Angela Di Bernardo

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Angela Di Bernardo, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, on April 16, 2021. She left us while sleeping peacefully at her residence in Vineland, New Jersey at the age of 97. Born in Roccamorice, Italy, in 1923, Angela survived World War II. During the war she met her loving husband Francesco Di Bernardo while his family was in hiding in the beautiful mountain region of Abruzzo. They were the first couple in their city to marry after the war ended. Angela witnessed incredible changes to her world, and ultimately made the decision to immigrate from Italy to Vineland in 1969. Angela was the beloved mother of Maria Palumbo (Donato), Lola Speziali (Paul), and Marcella Shepard (Mark). She was the proud grandmother to Marco Palumbo (Cindy), Nadia Di Pietro (David), Lisa Palumbo, Paul Speziali Jr., Brian Speziali, Liza Schlienger (Louis), Christina Love (Eric), and Gabriella Shepard (fiancé Luis); as well as great-grandmother to ten beautiful great-grandchildren that she adored. Also surviving are her beloved brother Vittorio and sister-in-law Annamaria Santangelo; her nieces Rosanna Celluzzi and Donna Cleveland; nephew Frank Santangelo; and special friends Edda and Lina D'Angelo. Angela was predeceased by her husband Francesco Di Bernardo, her parents Antonio and Pasquarosa (Di Bartolomeo) Santangelo, and a sister Maria. Angela lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker, business owner and worker in the manufacturing sector. Most of all she loved God and instilled in her daughters strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and is forever in our hearts. The family wishes to thank Angelic Hospice and Inspira Vineland who went above and beyond with their compassion and care for Angela. Due to COVID-19 restrictions everyone must wear a mask and social distance. A church visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:45am to 10:45am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am from Christ The Good Shepherd Parish - Church Of Saint Isidore The Farmer, 1655 Magnolia Road, Vineland. Interment will follow in Our Lady Of Pompeii Cemetery, Vineland.
