Obituary of Murray Ressler
Murray Aaron (Moishe-Aaron) Ressler passed away peacefully on March 27, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Born in 1924 in Strzyzow, Poland. A beloved family man, nothing was more important to him than seeing his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He and five immediate family members survived the Holocaust in Poland hidden in a "bunker" in a non-Jewish farmer's barn. In 2019, the Swieton family received recognition for hiding the family by Yad Vashem, Israel's Holocaust Museum. As a survivor, Murray talked as often as possible to classes and students recounting his family's history.
After surviving the Holocaust and coming to America he was drafted by the Marines in 1952 and served in Korea, receiving a Purple Heart when he was wounded. In 1969, while the world watched the US Landing men on the moon, he had experimental open heart surgery. In 1998 he had coronary bypass surgery. In 2015, he underwent "cyber-knife" radiation when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He was diagnosed with Covid-19 in December of 2020 and made progress until his recent decline with pulmonary disease.
Murray was a devout Jew and could always be counted on to make a minyan and visit the sick.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Bella; daughter Gail; son Sandy and wife Faye Taxman; grandchildren Elizabeth and husband Ian Clark, and Joseph and wife Mariam Halata; and great-grandchildren Jacob and Hannah. He is also survived by his sister Rose Kohn of Vineland.
