Obituary of Donald R Lamcken

Donald R. Lamcken, 94, of Vineland, passed away on January 13, 2021, at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland while being treated for Covid-19. He was born in Smithville, New York to the late Ward & Beatrice (Lamkin) Lamcken. A United States Army veteran of World War II, Sergeant Donald Lamcken served in the 3rd Army, 89th infantry division under General Patton from 1944 to 1948. Notably during his service, he took part in the liberation of Ohrdruf, the first Nazi camp to be liberated by US forces, was in Germany for V - E Day, and played baseball for the 2nd Army team towards the end of his service. Don joined Local Carpenter's Union #121 (#255) in Vineland in 1951. Throughout his career, he was an active member and served on the board. He retired in 1988. Even after retirement, he stayed active and continued to work part time in the maintenance department at Cumberland County College for over 20 years. He was an avid baseball player, enjoyed watching the Phillies, and shared his love of baseball with others. Don had a smile and laugh that would light up a room and was often the cause of many smiles and laughs within the room. A testament to his magnetic personality and perpetually happy demeanor, Don made friends wherever he went. Often found at the heart of conversation, he had a knack for cheering people up. He enjoyed playing cards, being outside, bowling, and spending time with his family. Don also enjoyed summers in Atlantic City and visiting the casinos. While in the Veterans' Home he participated in all they had to offer and received frequent visits from his loved ones. Don is predeceased by his beloved wife, Lorraine Lamcken. When they were with us, they were always together. They were each other's support system, soul mate, and best friend. The thought of their blessed reunion will be a source of peace and comfort as they are remembered. Don is survived by daughter & son-in-law, Patricia & Gerald Kopp; sons & daughters-in-law, Robert & Sandra Lamcken and Lawrence & Rose Lamcken; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Don was also predeceased by his daughter, Baby Girl Lamcken and his brothers Leonard (Patsy), and Hugh (Rita).
