Julia Petronglo

Obituary of Julia Petronglo

Julia Petronglo, 89 of Newfield, passed away on Friday 12/11 in the comforts of her home. Julia Alimenti (affectionately known as Tullia by those closest to her) was born on 12/2/1931, in Scranton, PA, and eventually moved with her family to Richland, NJ. It was in Richland, on her family's chicken farm, that she met and, in November of 1952, married the love of her life, Joseph Petronglo. They began their remarkable journey in their home in Newfield where she would spend the remainder of her life. There, they grew a family, a farm, and a history together. In 1978, they established J & S Petronglo & Sons. There, Julia and Joe worked the land with their three sons, Edward, James, and Louis. As the many crops they planted flourished, so did their lives and their farm until it became the family legacy it is today. Julia was no stranger to hard work, and she remained diligently working in the packing house, her sanctuary, even in very recent years. Julia was a quiet but incredibly strong and resilient soul. Her world was her family and her farm, and she gave them both all she had to offer. She showed her love primarily through the comfort of food. She always made sure those she cared about had exactly what they wanted to eat, exactly how they liked it, and she loved to bake and make her beloved escarole soup, cakes, and specialty cookies for all. When she wasn't providing for her family, she could be found helping others through the Women's Auxiliary at the North Vineland Fire Co. #3 for many years. Whether at home or in the community, Julia gave of herself endlessly. Her memory can be found everywhere on the farm- from her home, to the crops in the fields, and even her signature flowers, that she admired so fondly, lining the driveway. Her incredible presence is felt everywhere her legacy lies. Julia survived by her son, Edward, and grandchildren Aimee, Jenna, and Kaitlyn, her daughter-in-law, Frances and grandchildren James Jr., Steven (Katie), and Stephanie (Jim Bowen), as well as great-grandchildren, Sophia and Steven Jr. She is predeceased by her parents, Adorno & Amabelia Alimenti, brother Alfred, beloved husband Joseph, and dear sons James and Louis. At the request of her family, Julia's funeral service and emtombment will be private. In lieu of flowers Julia's family also requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society 1851 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill NJ 08034. (856-692-1364), or to the Charity of ones choice.
