Obituary of Michael Angelo Giacalone

Michael A. Giacalone passed away on October 10, 2011, after a brief illness. He was born in 1917 in Newark, NJ to Michele and Anna (Romeo) Giacalone. In 1919 the family moved to Vineland. He graduated from Vineland High School and also served in th US naval Air Corps. as an airplane mechanic and test pilot during World War II . While based at the US Naval Air Station in Grosselle, Michigan he met the love of his life, Thaise Marie Collins. The couple were married at Sacred heart Church in Vineland by the late Msgr. Hickey on September 15, 1945. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Michael Gerard and Anna Catherine. Michael was a founding member of St. Isidore's R.C. Church. He chaired the capital campaign which funded the new parish. Over the years he actively served the church in various capacities, parish council, Eucharistic Minister, Usher, Chair of collection accounting, He was a memeber of St. Isidore's bowling league earning an impressive collection of trophies. Michael worked for the new Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles for 35 years, retiring in 1980. His last position was Supervisor of Motor Vehicle Inspection at the Millville Inspection Station.
