Obituary of Agnes C. Faldetta

Agnes (VanSteyn) Faldetta, 92, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2010. She was born in Voorhaut, Holland on February 14, 1918 to the late Clasina (DeGroot) and Peter VanSteyn. Agnes came to the US in 1920 with her mother and the last of her large family. His father had come earlier with the older children to establish a home and find work. The family eventually settled in Vineland and was instrumental in starting commercial flower farming. Agnes met and married Pasquale "Pat" Faldetta whose family had come from Sicily to New York and then to Vineland. She and her husband started in the restaurant business in 1948 in South Vineland at Pats Lunch and after ten years they moved to Delsea Drive and took over the operation of Charcoal Haven, where they were in business for 16 years. After Pat's death Agnes decided to sell the business. Agnes then went to work for the Vineland Board of Education, retiring after almost 20 years as a lunchroom monitor and then security guard at the Vineland High School 9-10. She loved to read and do cross word puzzles. In her earlier years she and her husband loved to go into the City to dine and dance. She was a member of St. Francis Parish since its inception and was a member of the Ladies of St. Francis, The Catholic Daughters and the Ladies of the Moose. In the 1950's and 60's she and her husband were active in the area democratic party. For the past 25 years she has lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Pittsgrove,where she enjoyed her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Mary (Faldetta) and Andrew Wargo of Pittsgrove; her son Gerald and his wife Cherie Faldetta of Vineland; grandsons Greg and his wife Michele (Calabrese) Wargo; Steve and his wife Kimberly (Sherman) Wargo of Pittsgrove; Jeffrey Faldetta and companion Jennifer of Vineland; granddaughter Laurice Deem and her husband Michael of Vineland; six great-grandchildren Dylan and Drew Wargo, Zachary and Isabella Wargo and Kaitlyn and Michael Deem. Agnes was predeceased by her husband Pasquale; her three brothers Nicholas, Peter and Gerard VanSteyn and her five sisters Christine Sikking, Agatha Barbieri, Geraldine Bowman, Pat DeMaria and Audrey Green. Agnes will be sorely missed by all her family and friends. A church visitation will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am followed by a Funeral Liturgy to be held at 10:30 am from Divine Mercy Parish, 23 West Chestnut Avenue, Vineland.
