Obituary of Monica DiSabella SR.
Sister Monica DiSabella, a member of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, Villa Rossello, Newfield, NJ went to her eternal rest on Saturday, August 25, at Misericordia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, York, PA where she had been a resident for over 7 years.
Sister Monica, born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, was the daughter of the late Vincent and Euphemia (Cusatis) DiSabella of Hazleton, PA.
She entered the Congregation of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, in York, PA on December 26, 1947, and professed her Vows on August 16, 1949.
Totally dedicated to her religious vocation, Sister Monica was known for her spirit of prayer, and her loving care for others, especially for her religious congregation and her family.
Having obtained her Bachelor's degree in education from College Misericordia, Dallas, PA, Sister Monica ministered as a dedicated teacher in schools staffed by the religious order in Springfield and Milford, Massachusetts, Most Precious Blood and Our Lady of Grace Schools, Hazleton, PA and also at Bishop Hafey School in Hazleton, PA where she served as a staff support member. She also taught in Berwick, PA, Dunkirk, NY, and in Vineland and Millville, New Jersey.
At the end of her years in active ministry, in 2000, she was sent to the Order's retirement Home first doing volunteer service until she became a resident of the Misericordia Nursing Center in 2005.
In addition to her parents, Sister Monica was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Carmen, Peter, Nicholas, James and Brother Antonine, O.Carm. DiSabella, and by her sisters Dolores Mylet, Marie Paul and Carolyn Leonard.
She is survived by her religious community, the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, sisters-in-law, Shirley DiSabella of Milford, Ct., and Rose DiSabella of Hazleton, PA. and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews located in the Hazleton, PA area.
A viewing and Prayer Service will take place at Misericordia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Chapel, York, PA on Tuesday evening, August 28 at 7:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Villa Rossello Chapel, Newfield, NJ on Wednesday, August 29, at 11:00 AM followed by burial at Pieta Cemetery on the grounds of Villa Rossello. Friends may call on Wednesday morning at the chapel from 9:30 AM until before Mass. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Daughters of Mercy, Villa Rossello, 1009 Main Road, Newfield, NJ 08344. Arrangements are under the direction of Keffer Funeral Home, York, PA and Rone's Funeral Service, Vineland, NJ.
