Obituary of M. Susanne DiNicola

Sister M. Susanne DiNicola, a member of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, Villa Rossello, Newfield, NJ dide on February 4 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA, where she had been a patient for almost two months fighting a courageous battle with cancer. She was 69. Sister DiNicola was born in Dunmore, PA, daughater of the late Gerald and Susan Laposh DiNicola. Having entered the Congregation of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, in Newfield, NJ, on July 11, 1952 she professed her Vows on August 16, 1954. Totally dedicated to her religious vocation, Sister Susanne's life was characterized by her spirit of persevering prayer and her great love for her religious congregation. An excellent educator, SisterSusanne taught in various schools in Berwick, Hazleton, and Old Forge, PA, Milford and Springfield, MA, Dunkirk, NY, and Vineland, NJ. She also served as principal of St. Joan of Arc School, Hershey, PA, Little Flower School, Berkeley Heights and St. Mary's Regional School, Vineland, NJ and at Holy Spirit Academy in Hazelton PA. She recently served as Coordinator of Religious Education at St. Mary's Parish, Old Forge, PA and also taught religion and art in the Parish school. In September of 2007 she served as part-time Assistant Teacher at All Saints Academy in Scranton, PA. until illness overcame her. Sister Susanne had a passion for teaching and loved the childrenunder her care. Well-versed in many areas, she enjoyed teaching children music and drama, and in some of the schools where she taught she organized a children's choir. She also enjoyed preparing children for school performances which involved singing and putting on skits. A multi-talented person, Sister enjoyued cooking, baking and sewing. It was no problem for her to provide a fitting meal for any type of occasion and for any number of people. She delighted in giving pleasure to others with her expertise in baking. In addition to her parents, Sister Susanne was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Angelo. She is survived by her religious community, the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, two sisters, Sister M. Geraldine, DM of Old Forge, PA and Rosalie Payne and her husband Robert of Fort Myers, Florida, and two brothers, Joseph and Anthony of Dunmore as well as an extended family of nieces nephews, great nices and nephews. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated by Rev. Louis T. Kaminski at St. Mary's Church, Old Forge on Thursday, February 7 at 10:00 AM. Friends may call on Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at St. Mary's Chruch, Old Forge. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Carew Hall at Villa Rossello, Newfield, NJ on Friday, Feb. 8 at 11:00 AM followed by burial at Pieta' Cemetery onthe grounds of Villa Rossello. Friends may call between 9:30 to 10:45 at Carew Hall.
