Obituary of Louis D'Alessandro

Louis H. "Bub" D'Alessandro, 69, of Vineland passed away on Monday, August 16, 2010 at home surrounded by his beloved family and close friends. A lifelong Vineland resident, he was born in Millville to the late Louis S. "Lou Dale" and Edith (Jennings) D'Alessandro. He was a 1958 graduate of Sacred Heart High School and 1968 graduate of Philadelphia's Spring Garden Institute Automotive Training Center with specialization in automotive service technology (machine shop) and automotive maintenance. Lou was employed as an automotive machine shop instructor at Spring Garden Institute from 1968 to 1972. He served with Company A as a sergeant in the First Battalion 50th Armored Division of the New Jersey Army National Guard, Vineland, from 1962-1968. He owned and operated D and J Transit, a sand-hauling trucking concern, for thirteen years. He also owned and operated Lou D'Alessandro Fabrication, specializing in custom metal fabrication and welding, and manufactured Chrysler Corporation products. He was most recently employed as a machinist at Chemglass, Inc. from 2000 until his death. Known to his cronies as "Mumbles", Lou and his friends enjoyed countless hours of camaraderie, building and racing hot rod cars and restoring vintage automobiles. He so loved his nieces and nephews and his friends' children. An avid championship drag racing fan, he was a member of the National Hot Rod Association and the National Street Rod Association. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and dear friends Bill Buscham, Rich Keenan, John Manera, Marty Mastro, Louie Pinotti, Jim Sainsott and Walt Surdam. He is survived by his sister and her husband Barbara and Charles Sheftall; nephews Michael Angelucci, Adam Sheftall and Cody Sheftall, nieces Meredith and her husband Robert Borski, Alexis Sheftall; great nephews Montgomery Angelucci, Michael Sheftall and Benjamin Borski, great nieces, Cassandra Angelucci, Courtny Bindewald, Olivia Borski and Sophia Borski. He was predeceased by his beloved dog, Mayor Sammy of East Avenue. A Church visitation will be held on Thursday from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm followed by a funeral mass to be held at 2:00 pm from Sacred Heart Church,1010 East Landis Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow in Siloam Cemetery 550 N. Valley Ave., Vineland. ARRANGEMENTS are under the supervision of Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ 08360.
