Obituary of Phyllis J. Curtis

Phyllis J. (Murphy) Curtis, 68, of Vineland, NJ, passed away peacefully at the South Jersey Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012. Phyllis was born in Dallas, TX. on Oct. 23, 1943 and was raised in Jay, FL. She graduated from Jay High School in 1961. She held the title of Miss Montgomery and had an Associate's degree in business. Phyllis met her future husband, Peter F. Curtis, in Alabama and they later married in Jay, FL. The couple moved to Vineland, NJ in 1969. Phyllis worked at Napa Auto Parts and later worked for the Vineland Police Department as a clerk typist where she retired after 17 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed spending time with her grandsons along with taking cruises with her family and friends. Some of her favorite past times were watching football, reading books and crocheting. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vineland. Phyllis is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Peter F. Curtis, with whom they would have celebrated 44 years of marriage this coming September; two sons, Keith Curtis and girlfriend Kim Burris, with grandson Andrew Yearicks of Vineland, NJ and Brian and wife Allyson Curtis, with grandsons Tyler and Sean of Richland, NJ. She is also survived by three brothers: Charles (Lois), Wendell (Norma Jean), Gerald and a sister Freida. As well as her mother-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other close family members. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Alma and John Murphy. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 at Rone Funeral Home, 1110 E. Chestnut Avenue in Vineland, NJ. There will be a viewing from 9 to 11 a.m. before the services. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, 741 E. Walnut Road, Vineland, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Phyllis Curtis may be made to the American Cancer Society (Cumberland County), 1851 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
