Obituary of Samuel Crystal

Samuel Crystal of Pittsgrove Twp. passed away on Saturday October 15, 2011 at his residence. Sam was born in 1914, and was the youngest child of the late Frank and Dora Crystal, he was born on the farm on Crystal Rd. where he lived and worked. A 1937 graduate of Rutgers University with a B.S. in animal husbandry, he returned home to marry Sara Wolf and farm. They had 4 children Bonnie of Ottawa, Canada, Paulette of Cinnaminson, NJ David, who passed away in 1946, and Larry of Presque Isle, ME. Sam raised chickens for the egg market. He was cited in the Popular Mechanics for his invention for opening nests automatically. He was a member and active participant in the Vineland 69 F&AM Masonic Lodge, the Consistory, the Royal Arch Chapter, the Shriners, the Odd Fellows, and the Grange. He retired from chicken farming in 1974, and, after working for Kerr Glass, became a food inspector for the USDA and the State of New Jersey, his specialty being inspecting poultry for the table. Being widowed, he married Inga Burg and enjoyed traveling, wood cabinetry and crafts, and gardening. His noted green thumb produced fruits and vegetables sold at the Flying Feather Farm Market in Moorestown, NJ. He belonged to the Beth Israel Synagogue and enjoyed going to Sons of Jacob in Vineland. He will be sadly missed by his wife, his children, his step-children Peter and Janet of Maitland, FL. his grandchildren Ira and Dora, Miriam, Steven, Sara, and Phillip, step-grandchildren Jennifer and John, and Bobby and Jennifer, great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and countless loyal friends A Graveside Service will be held on Monday October 17, 2011 at 3:00PM in the Alliance Cemetery, Gershal ave. in Norma. Arrangements are under the supervision of the Rone Funeral Service, Vineland . The family will sit shivah at 26 Crystal Rd. Pittsgrove, NJ, on October 23, 24.
