Obituary of Alfred Crudele

Captain Al Crudele, 68, of Sea Isle City, passed away suddenly at home early Thursday morning, February 19, 2009. Captain Al has been a permanent resident of Sea Isle City for the past 30 years after moving there from Vineland, NJ. He attended Vineland High School (Class of 59) and received his GED while serving in the United States Navy from1959 to 1962. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the USS James C. Owens DD 776. After he was honorably discharged, he returned home and helped run The College Inn, his family's business. Al loved the game of baseball. Starting with Vineland Little League, Al played in the first game, was the first batter and was the first lefty to hit a homerun at Landis Park. While in the Navy, he played softball and continued to instill his passion of the game into his grandchildren and other children by coaching in the Sea Isle Recreation League. He was an avid fisherman. He started Shadow Charters, a very successful charter boat business after obtaining his captain's license in 1988. He retired in 2005 to enjoy a life filled with family, friends and his pride and joy, a custom Harley Davidson. He was always the life of the party and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by wife, Geraldine ( Santos) Crudele of Sea Isle City ; son, Alfred Elvin Crudele, III of Sea Isle City; daughter, Tara Lyn Todd of Vineland; brother and wife, Rick and MaryAnn Crudele of Vineland, mother-in-law, Antoinette Leszcynski of Vineland, aunt, Antoinette Mensone of Vineland, grandchildren, James, Antoinette, Michael, and Nicole Crudele, Austin and Sara Bortle; niece and husband, Dawn and Jamie Cifuentes of Bridgeton, niece and husband, Tina and Ken Pontari of Vineland and nephew and wife Rick and Laura Crudele of Vineland. He was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Beatrice Crudele, Sr. and uncle and wife, James and Elaine Myers. A funeral home visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 from 8 to 10:30 followed by a religious and military service at 10:30 at the Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland.
