Obituary of Bessie Tortu

Bessie (Trommello) Tortu, 91, of Vineland, New Jersey left this world on August 27, 2018 with her beloved family by her side. Bessie was born in Landisville, NJ to Antonino and Lena (Grimaldi) Trommello on November 27, 1926. She attended Landisville and Cleary Schools before having to leave school at age 14 so she could work to contribute to her family's welfare. She worked as a seamstress at Hoover's clothing factory and later alongside her husband in several small businesses. Her passions were her children, her grandchild and the families of her sisters, her brother and her brothers-in-law. She loved making the holidays perfect for her own family, especially Christmas, when she would work tirelessly to ensure every detail was perfect and an extensive assortment of homemade cookies was available. She will be forever cherished in the hearts of her immediate and extended family. Bessie is survived by her children, Ronald (Lani) of Audubon, NJ; Deborah of Vineland; Michelle (William) Peggin of Vineland; Joyce of Atlantic City and Lisa (Lawrence) Hageman of Vineland; her grandson Dylan Peggin of Vineland; her sisters Carmella (Ferdinand) Galzerano of Vineland and Lucy Baker of Vineland and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Vincent Tortu, her granddaughter Natalie Marie Peggin and her sisters Carrie Abriola, Frances Chercowy, Jenny Messore, Suzanne Perdue and Antoinette Trommello and her brother Carlo Trommello. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Inspira Medical Center who helped make her last moments calm and comfortable. Funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Friday, August 31 with Visitation from 9:45 to 11:15 and a Funeral Mass at 11:30. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rone Funeral Home will be handling all arrangements.
