Obituary of Frances Pitale

Frances Pitale, 97, of Vineland, NJ passed away at home on July 8, 2018. She was born in Williamstown, to the late Frank and Angelina (Joie) Buttacoli. Frances was the youngest child, having five brothers and three sisters, all of which predeceased her. Since her mother died when she was seven, her oldest sister, Jenny, became monumental in her up bringing. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Pitale in 1981. Frances was predeceased by two special nephews, John Bruno and Louis Buttacoli, both of whom kept in steady contact with her over the years, even though they did not live nearby. Frances worked as a seamstress at Model Blouse in Landisville, when she was a young adult and years later returned to this occupation in Vineland, to help defray expenses when her son went to college. In retirement with her husband, she enjoyed many winter vacations in Florida. Together, they preserved fruits, vegetables, jam and tomatoes for the winter. Frances was a great cook and held many holiday dinners at her house. She missed the "old days" when she got together with her siblings and their families, having large gatherings centered around lots of cooking and the holidays. Frances loved to be outdoors and work in her yard. She was an avid gardener making her plants in the spring, using the seeds she collected from the previous year's garden. She was an active member of the senior action club for many years at the Vineland Senior Center, often helping in their meal preparation. Frances enjoyed the companionship of many neighbors of her generation and had a special bond with her younger neighbors of 28 years, Judy and Wendy. She loved animals and always had food and affection ready for the neighborhood cats that came to visit her. She is survived by her son, John Pitale and his wife Gale and many nieces and nephews. A church visitation will be held on Thursday from 10am to 11am followed by a funeral mass at 11am from Divine Mercy Parish, 23 West Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland.
