Obituary of Catherine Arpino
Catherine J. Arpino, of Vineland passed away peacefully on June 3, 2018 at The Bishop McCarthy Residence. Catherine was born in Vineland to the late Joseph and Angelina (DiCiurcio) Arpino. She attended school in Minotola and graduated from Vineland High School. She attended The American Institute of Banking, graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. Catherine began her career as a bookkeeper at the Vineland National Bank and Trust Company. She became Vice-President and Secretary of the Board of Directors when the bank merged with the First Peoples Bank of New Jersey and became Regional Vice President of the bank.
Her grandparents immigrated from Italy. The Arpino grandparents were from a small town near Mount Cassino and the DiCiurcio grandparents from Isernia in the province of Compabesso. Both settled in this area as farmers. As a child, Catherine worked on the Arpino farm which was located on Vine Road and Wheat Road. Catherine was caring, generous and very active in many civic, charitable, and professional organizations such as; The Vineland Y.M.C.A., Cumberland County College Foundation, Alumni Association Stonier School of Banking and the Greater Cumberland County United Way. She was very active at the Newcomb Hospital serving as Newcomb Medical Center Vice-Chairperson, Chairperson of Pension and Personnel Committee, Newcomb Finance Committee, Strategic Planning Committee and Nominating Committee, Vineland Educational Foundation and Treasurer, Newcomb Health Services and Treasurer. She worked on the following campaign drives: Newcomb Foundation Annual Giving Campaign. Greater Cumberland County United Way and the Vineland Y.M.C.A. Partnership Campaign.
Through her efforts she established the Catherine Arpino Nursing and Allied Health Field scholarships in the following schools: Vineland Senior High School, Sacred Heart High School, Buena Regional High School, Cumberland County College, Newcomb Foundation and Saint Augustine Preparatory School.
She was a member of the Greater Vineland Chamber of Commerce, Financial Women International, Christ the Good Shepherd Parish and the Women's Club of Vineland. Catherine was the recipient of the following awards; Greater Vineland Chamber of Commerce Professional Business Award, Saint Augustine Preparatory School Mendel Award, Rotary Club of Vineland Vocational Award, Italian-American Heritage Award and established a Paul Harris Fellow Scholarship and Excellence Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to Cumberland County College by the New jersey Council of County Colleges.
She is survived by her sister, Celeste Brown and her nephews, Gregory And Christopher Brown.
A church visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:30 am to 10am followed by a funeral mass at 10am from Christ The Good Shepherd Parish - Church Of Saint Isidore The Farmer, 1655 Magnolia Road, Vineland. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland.
