Obituary of Leophold L Ferus III

Leo L. Ferus III, passed away peacefully at his home on April 22, 2018 after a brief battle with throat cancer. Leo was born in Millville and raised in Vineland, NJ. He was a 1978 graduate of Vineland High School and a 1982 cum laude graduate of Fordham University where he ran the Fordham Deli. Leo's love of cooking, which he inherited from his family, drew him to the restaurant business. He headed West where he worked as an Expediter and Sauté Cook in San Francisco and subsequently ran several restaurants including his own establishment in New York. Upon returning to New Jersey he and his family opened and operated The Garwood House in Salem, NJ for over 14 years. In 2002 Leo started at South Woods State Prison where, as an Industrial Trades Instructor, he taught inmates about cooking. Leo enjoyed nothing more than Sunday dinners with his family and friends and spending time in Sea Isle City. He will be missed by his aunt, Anna Cifaloglio Ehlen of Buena, NJ; sister, Lucille Ferus and sister-in-law Barbra I. Higgins of California, along with many cousins, friends and co-workers. Leo was predeceased by his parents Leo L. Ferus, Jr. and Lucy Cifaloglio Ferus. At Leo's request there will be no viewing, however a graveside service and burial will be held on Thursday at 11am from Siloam Cemetery, 550 N Valley Ave, Vineland.
